Where's The Sense of History (Kirk Ramdath)
April 24, 2003

Better late than never. I promised my buddy Kirk, who is allegedly in Korea teaching English, that I would let him post his viewpoint on world affairs. CNN's coverage of the war dropped faster than Charlie Sheen's pants at a brothel, but that doesn't mean we've all stopped caring.... right? One word of caution, apparently having a degree in English (with honors no less) does not guarantee that you will write with proper capitalization or punctuation.

I am angry about many things related to the bush rumsfeld et al cabal that is seeking to rule the world. One thing that burns very strongly is the apparent void

of any sense of human history that is apparent in their policy. This manifests itself in different ways. The national museum of baghdad was looted in the aftermath of the fall of the city to the new crusaders. Despite meeting with representatives of the archaeological community weeks ago and being informed of the value of the museum's contents, not one tank or soldier could be spared to prevent the wholesale destruction and pillaging of the museum's treasures. Not surprisingly however, any facility that is necessary for the production of oil did recieve such protection. At least the oil wells are safe.

it is sad that the people who did the pillaging were themselves iraqis. They were the impoverished poor classes who have suffered the most under saddam's regime, especially after the first war in 1991 and the sanctions that have come after, striking out at what they thought to be the symbols of the wealthier ruling class. Much of their country's rich history is now laid to waste. The national museum in baghdad contained not just a record of that city's history or of that country's history however. It is a record of human history. Of our ingenuity and creativity dating back as far as the term civilization can be applied to humanity. Artifacts from ancient mesapotamia, where the first written language was developed. Assyrian vases six feet tall that were two thousand years old when christ walked the earth, now shattered to pieces on the floor. This is what has been lost.

But the oil wells are safe.

but memory is and ever will be one of our greatest and worst gifts. Those who forget the mistakes of the past will be doomed to repeat them. Those who cannot forget will also experience the same doom. So no wonder that israel, the chosen people who suffered under the pharoah and under the fuhrer, who suffered for so long for so many years, now has the power so long denied to it as a nation and has turned that power against its former enemies. Now israel is the oppressor. Now israel is the cause for the suffering of a people. They remember their pain only too well, but have forgotten what suffering does do a people. How it eats at them and burns itself into the fabric of their very souls. How the oppressed will suffer till they are oppressed no more, then they will become the oppressors.

In this new epoch, the west has slapped the face of arab nations for years. Propping up totalitarian regimes and overthrowing democratic ones. Unconditional support for the oppression and removal of the palestinian people from their homeland. The plundering of the most valuable resource in this oil mad economy. The invasion of iraq by a western army. The coming invasion of syria? Where will this new crusade lead but to to hightening of tensions that already run millenia deep? How long will a people endure the sting on their cheek and the spit in their eye? For a very long time, as we have seen with israel, but what comes after? Everybody forgives and forgets? We call a truce after i ***** you up the ass, like the white people have been trying to do to coloured folk for the past few centuries, while still refusing to share their toys? Not likely.

and the sad thing is that all of this is blatantly obvious. Seriously, bush and his cronies are either retarded or completely insane. They probably think they can pull it off though. Empire. But their house of cards is already crumbling. It's rotten at the core. All their people are poor. So bush went to war. And now on everyone's nerves he's starting to gnaw. In short time he'll be shown the door.

but i just hope things don't get too messy before then. I hope they don't, but i fear they will.
